Nestled at the entrance to the world famous Gap of Dunloe lies Kate Kearney's Cottage, a 170 year old family-run establishment.

At ‘Kate's’ you will enjoy the tradition of hospitality made famous by the legendary Kate herself.

Our Bar is open and serving food 7 days a week from noon each day in season. Off season its best to call ahead.

Our restaurant is open for group bookings. We are proud to be recipients of the CIE Award for our hosting of Traditional Irish Nights with dinner for the second year running.

The History of Kate Kearneys Cottage

Kate was a well known beauty in Ireland in the years before the Great Famine (1845-1849). The legend of Kate has captured the imagination pf people far and wide down through the years.

It was at this síbín that Kate distilled her famous poitín, 'Kate Kearney's Mountain Dew', which was "very fierce and wild, requiring not less than seven times its own quantity of water to tame and subdue it." It was of course illicit. However, Kate flouted the law and invited the weary traveller to partake of her hospitality.

Noted for its delectable menu served at reasonable prices, the Restaurant at Kate Kearney's has seen visitors return again and again! A choice of menus is provided. Open daily, we equally welcome groups and small functions alike, as well as individual diners and couples.

We had Day 2 for our daughters wedding and this venue surpassed our expectations ,
A barbeque was arranged by Sean who was very helpful . Mary took over the logistics and We found her professionalism unreal,
The food was excellent and plenty of it , The staff were very helpful and all the people we met there are a great credit to this Great establishment in Killarney .

We visited here while staying at a cottage just up the road on our recent trip to Kerry for my nieces communion absolutely loved this restaurant food was delicious and very reasonably priced great atmosphere really lovely old pub and restaurant staff was all very nice and helpful would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area
